The Java Developer will work with an interdisciplinary group of social sciences and information technology professionals in the analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of various data visualizations and reporting tools. This includes, but not limited to, interactive mapping applications and dynamics database sites and applications. This position will work with project leads to gather requirements from clients.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 1 to 2 years of professional experience in web development, or an equivalent of 3 to 5 years of professional experience. Entry Level candidates will be considered based on skills and education.
Required Skills/Experience
- 3-5 years of Java Experience
- Proficient in JavaScript/JQuery
- VB.net Experience (2 applications run on this)
- Proficient in HTML 5 and CSS 3
- Experience with connecting to a database via a program (JDBC,ODBC, etc)
- Proficient in building and running queries and parsing the results
- Proficient in making dynamic database driven reports
- Proficient in interacting/programming with dynamic charting software.
- Strong communication skills, including the abilities to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and to transform business requirements and application requirements into appropriate technical solutions.
-Ability to work independently and properly document work
- Knowledge of core SQL structure, functions and stored procedures, triggers, sequence, etc
- Knowledge of good relational database applications maintaining high development standards with best practices.
- Knowledge of developing relational database applications maintaining high development standards with best practices
-knowledge of creating scripts and/or database jobs for data importing and exporting.
Preferred Skills
- Familiar with Windows Servers user administration/Security
- Familiar with and how to connect to Linux servers
- Familiar SSH, Secure Shell, to securely log onto remote Linux Servers
- Familiar with VMWare server or other virtualization products
- Familiar with GIS technologies and/or spatial functions
- Familiar with ORacle databases and proficiency with PL/SQL, or experience with PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with geospatial database
